Nonsense and linguistic laws Our claim is that the linguistic basis for the nonsense prevailing in the text we chose to examine is due to a strict observance of the rules and meanings in the abstract grammar and lexis of the language (la langue) as opposed to the more flexible categories at work in the actual use of language (la parole). This in turn can be interpreted as revealing that the subject is missing, an appalling thought that we tend to avoid by filling in as much meaning as we possibly can.
